Google just announced the company has10 million users on Google+ after just over two weeks.

It also said users have shared 1 billion items.

During the earnings call, CEO Larry Page said, "Our goal with Google+ is to make sharing on the web like sharing in real life, as well as to improve the overall Googleexperience. Circles let you choose with precision who you are sharing with. Not surprisingly this has been very well received, because in real life, we share different things with different people."

This is a great start for Google. We'll see if it can keep the momentum going, and whether or not people stick with it.

Thus far in our experience, it's mostly populated with tech reporters and Google employees. Our friends are starting to sign up, but haven't been posting much.

The service got a nice boost today when the New York Times' David Pogue gave it a glowing review and said it's an improvement over Facebook.

At today's introduction of Facebook video chatMark Zuckerberg didn't want to appear too cocky aboutGoogle+, the search giant's recently launched competitor.

Mashable's Ben Parr asked him directly about Google+, and here's more or less what he said (it's a rough transcript -- not precise):

I'm not going to say a lot about Google+, we've all only spent a little time on the service....The last five years have been about connecting people, the next five years are about connecting apps. We'll see a lot of companies who haven't looked at social begin to build it into their apps. Not justGoogleNetflix is a good example, they've talked openly about wanting to be more social...I view this as validation of how this is going to play out over the next five years. Every app is going to be social. If we build the best service, there's massive value there. If we don't, somebody else will.

Seems pretty humble.

Google+ was announced in a blog post where Google's SVP of Engineering Vic Gundotra said, "In this basic, human way, online sharing is awkward. Even broken. And we aim to fix it."

Google is working on a version of its Google+ social networking service for businesses and will roll it out later this year, according to a manager on the Google+ team.

Apparently Google's "+1" sharing buttons for Google+ have taken off so much that there are more out there than there are Twitter sharing buttons, according to a report cited by VatorNews.

Third-party site owners can add little buttons on their sites to let people share on social services likeFacebook, Twitter and Google+. And there are apparently more Google+ buttons out there than Twitter buttons, which seems incredible.
